Music Education faculty and alumni excel at 2012 MENC conference

The 2012 Biennial Music Educators National Conference with Special Focus on Research in Music Education and Music Teacher Education was held in St. Louis on March 28-31. IU Jacobs School of Music Alumni Association and music education faculty hosted a reception at the event, and alumni are shown proudly displaying their gift t-shirts: John Seybert, Peter Miksza, C. Victor Fung, Rob Vagi, Kevin Watson, Carla Aguilar, Julia Shaw, Maud Hickey, Cyndy Nasman, & Patrice Madura.

IU Music Education Faculty members Patrice Madura, Peter Miksza, and Katherine Strand all were active presenters at the national conference. Dr. Madura presented research titled, “The Effect of a Vocal Jazz Workshop on Choral Music Education Majors’ Confidence and Achievement in Improvisation Tasks;” Dr. Miksza presented studies titled, “Third-Year Cohort Results of a Pre-Collegiate Music Teacher Recruitment Program” and “Mentoring Preservice Teachers from a ‘Teacher Concerns’ Perspective”. Katherine Strand, chair of the Social Sciences and Creativity Special Research Interest Groups, presided over these research sessions.
