DM student Youn Joo Lee appointed Associate Principal Oboe with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra

Doctoral Student Youn Joo Lee, a student of Professor Linda Strommen, has been appointed Associate Principal Oboe with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lee’s most recent appointments in orchestras were in the United States, where she was acting principal oboe with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, principal oboe with the Owensboro Symphony.  Other orchestral experience has been with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, New World Symphony, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Salzburg Festival Orchestra, and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra.

Her honors and awards include First Prize at the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition and competition wins with the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox Oboe Competition (UK), Heida Hermanns International Woodwind Competition (USA) and the Lillian Fuchs Memorial Chamber Music Competition (USA).

Lee is a doctoral student in the Jacobs School (ABD) and received a Performance Diploma from the school in 2007. She received her Masters in Music from the Manhattan School of Music in 2005 and a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University in 2003.
