Jeremy Allen performs in Midwest premiere of Hersch composition

Faculty bassist Jeremy Allen performed in the Midwest premiere of world-renowned jazz pianist Fred Hersch’s setting of Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass” Oct. 21 at the Chicago Humanities Festival. The suite, scored for piano, two vocalists, and small chamber ensemble, was called “an eloquently orchestrated celebration of Walt Whitman’s poetry, vision, and, above all else, humanity” by the Washington Post. Allen’s association with Hersch includes live performances last year and a recording project three years ago.
