Harvey Phillips Celebration – October 15

Musical Arts Center, 3:00 p.m., Octuba 15, 2011

A RECEPTION IN THE LOBBY OF THE MAC WILL FOLLOW THE PROGRAM

Harvey Phillips gave the tuba “class and integrity.” His influence on the rest of the brass instruments was second to none. Much of what we have today as musicians, and especially as tuba players, is due to the efforts of Harvey Phillips. Harvey always preferred to have a Celebration of his life.  Therefore I am hosting a presentation and gathering of his many friends to celebrate Harvey’s incredible life and accomplishments. What could be better than celebrating OCTUBAFEST 2011 honoring the person who started it all?

To honor Harvey, we will be showing films and pictures of him throughout the program. We are also seeking to establish an endowed scholarship in his name that would benefit the Jacobs School of Music tuba students into perpetuity. Information on how you can make a gift to this scholarship is enclosed. Please send any pictures that you think would be of interest to Matthew Wisley, Development Assistant, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, 1201 E. Third Street, Bloomington, IN 47405 or email to mcwisley@indiana.edu.

All former students of Harvey’s, IU grads, friends and former colleagues are cordially invited to attend this tribute to Harvey. Let us pack the hall and hopefully have national news coverage.

Sincerely,
Daniel Perantoni

One Response to Harvey Phillips Celebration – October 15

  1. Pallansch Robert says:

Hi Dan–Thank you for the heads-up about the OCTUBAFEST in Harvey’s honor; it promises to be a bash true to his style in every way.
We regretfully are unable to attend, but will be honored to contribute to the scholarship fund. Would you send me the address?
    Cheers, Bob and Fifi
