IU Ballet Theater performs iconic Martha Graham ballet for first time

Indiana University Ballet Theater opens its 2012-13 season Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29, with its fall ballet, “Light and Shade,” a program featuring trend-setting styles of dance from three iconic American choreographers. The company will perform Martha Graham’s “Appalachian Spring” for the first time.


Don GiovanniFinal Weekend for ‘Don Giovanni,’ opening IU Opera and Ballet Theater’s 2012-13 season ‘with a vengeance’

The 2012-13 Indiana University Opera and Ballet Theater season opens with a vengeance with a reprise of W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni. The final two performances are Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22, at 8 p.m. in Bloomington’s Musical Arts Center (no live streaming this weekend). James Marvel will guest stage direct, with musical direction by Arthur Fagen and sets by C. David Higgins.

Singing HoosiersSinging Hoosiers Fall Preview first concert under new director Steve Zegree

In its first concert under new music director Steve Zegree, Pam and Jack Burks Professor of Music at the Jacobs School of Music, the IU Singing Hoosiers will present a Fall Preview concert Oct. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. in Auer Hall. The concert will include a special guest performance by Distinguished Professor of Music Timothy Noble, baritone.


Jazz StudiesJacobs Jazz Studies features new jams this semester

New concert offerings, a vocal jazz ensemble and world-class guest artists are just part of the “happenings” this fall in the Jazz Studies Department at the Jacobs School. One of the biggest changes of the season is Distinguished Professor David Baker, chair of the department, passing the baton for his jazz ensemble to fellow faculty member Brent Wallarab—after directing it for more than 40 years.


Guitar FestivalJacobs hosts third annual Indiana International Guitar Festival and Competition

Featuring guest artists, instrument demonstrations and approximately 20 competitors, the Jacobs School of Music will host the third annual Indiana International Guitar Festival and Competition Oct. 20 and 21.


Lunchtime Organ RecitalsFree lunchtime organ recitals continue at IU Auditorium during the 2012-13 season

Indiana University Auditorium, the Bloomington chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Jacobs School are pleased to announce the continuation of lunchtime organ recitals through the 2012-13 season, performed by Jacobs organ students. The first of these free recitals is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, at the IU Auditorium.


Virginia ZeaniDistinguished Professors Emeritae McBride, Zeani receive IU President’s Medal

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie presented the President’s Medal for Excellence to Angela B. McBride, Distinguished Professor Emerita from the Indiana University School of Nursing, and Virginia Zeani, Distinguished Professor Emerita from the Jacobs School of Music.

Choose from a triad of events on Sunday, as the Student Orchestra, the Ehlen-Tai Piano Duo, and the University Orchestra all strut their stuff. Then prepare for a jazz one-two on Monday with a Jazz Combo followed by the Jeremy Allen Jazz Ensemble in the MAC. Tuesday’s Wind Ensemble, conducted by Stephen W. Pratt, keeps the week rolling.
