Elliott Bark composition to be performed in Finland

Elliott Bark‘s Reminiscence for String Orchestra will be performed by professional Finnish string orchestra St. Michel Strings (Mikkelin kaupunginorkesteri) at its season finale concert, May 16, in the Mikaeli concert hall (Mikkeli, Finland) under the baton of Sasha Makila.Read more…

Ezra Donner winner in MTNA competition

Ezra Donner was awarded $1,500 as the Second-Place winner at the Young Artist level in the National Composition Competition of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Founded in 1876, the MTNA is focused on advancing the value of music study and music making in society, and supporting the professionalism of music teachers.Read more…

Texu Kim receives Goethe Institut commission

Texu Kim was awarded a 5,000 Euro commission by the Goethe Institut South Korea for the Asian Composers Showcase and Concert, one of the concerts of Tongyeong International Music Festival (TIMF) in March. It will be premiered by Ensemble TIMF during the festival.Read more…

Alumna Adrienne Elisha wins prestigious residency at the MacDowell Colony

Composer Adrienne Elisha (BM 82, MM 88) received the MacDowell Colony Residency which took place in October/November 2012. It took place in Petersborough, New Hampshire and is one of many recent artists colonies she has been accepted to recently. Read more…

Alumna Natalie Williams wins Atlanta Opera’s 24-hour Opera Project

Congratulations to Natalie Williams (DM 12 Composition), who has been invited to compete in the Atlanta Opera 24-Hour Project in Atlanta from January 25-26. The competition brings together five composers paired with five librettists who write, rehearse and stage a new 10-minute opera in 24-hours. The works were streamed live on Saturday, January 26 during the live performance in Atlanta. Williams went on to be Winner of the Atlanta Opera, 24-hour project. A new opera by Natalie Williams, written in one night, was voted judges favorite at the Atlanta Opera’s 24-hour opera project in Atlanta (26 January, 2013) Read more…

Associate Professor P.Q. Phan receives IU Faculty fellowship in support of new requiem

Associate Professor P.Q. Phan has received $20,000 from a new IU funding program made possible by the Mellon Innovating International Research and Teaching (MIIRT) program. The funds will be used to support his project titled Laying the Foundation for the First Vietnamese Requiem.Read more…
