“Musical Borrowing and Reworking” is back on-line with a new website

The new website of Peter Burkholder’s annotated bibliography on musical borrowing has been restored and it is again available at its original URL. The project has been renamed Musical Borrowing and Reworking to emphasize the breadth of the subjects that it aims to cover, including transcription, variations, quotation, paraphrase, parody, modeling, allusion, sampling, and many other ways to rework existing music, from troping and organum to collage and electronic manipulation. Read the new introduction for further details.
